Energy Independence for Noosa
Community Workshop Saturday 23 September
Mayor Tony Wellington will open a community energy workshop on Saturday, 23 September, at 2:00pm. All are welcome to attend.
Zero Emissions Noosa, Inc (ZEN), a non-profit, non-government body, works to achieve zero carbon dioxide emissions across Noosa by 2026. The biggest
contributor to our emissions is our use of electricity.
Joe Shlegeris, convenor of the electricity group within Zero Emissions Noosa, says: “We’re much closer to energy independence than you might think.
The path from here to 100% locally generated electricity creates big opportunities for local businesses and householders to reduce their
electricity bills--to ZERO, in many cases.
“The numbers already tell an exciting story. Our research has revealed some figures which I find truly breathtaking. I can’t wait to talk about these
on the day.
“The widespread use of solar photovoltaics on residential rooftops has already forced big changes on the local electricity supply. As business users
catch up with householders, our electricity system will be completely transformed.
“All members of the community are invited to attend, ask questions, and tell us what you think.
“Whether you’re a homeowner, a renter, a business owner, a commercial landlord, or an investor, you will be affected by the coming changes. There’s
no such thing as a dumb question--if you’re wondering about something, chances are someone else is, too. Speak up!”
Speakers on the day will include ZEN Project Officer Geoff Acton and Our Power founder Dave Langdon. Representatives of local solar installation companies
will be on hand to answer questions.
