REWIring noosa “electrify everything” - A Sustainable Revolution Sweeping the Shire.
Noosa Shire is leading the charge in a sustainability revolution, with households across the region making the switch to all-electric appliances and cars powered by clean electricity. This shift is not only slashing household expenses by up to 50% compared to those relying on fossil fuels, but it’s also making a significant positive impact on the climate by reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy use.
Zero Emissions Noosa Inc, supported by Noosa council, has produced a “Rewiring Noosa - Electrify Everything” Toolkit and covering eight different technologies and strategies, including rooftop solar PV, heat pump hot water systems, pool pumps and heaters, home batteries, electric vehicles, and energy monitoring and control systems. One of the key benefits of this approach is the potential for significant cost savings. For example, by switching to an electric vehicle, households can save up to $2,000 per year on fuel and maintenance costs. Similarly, by installing a solar hot water system, households can reduce hot water energy consumption by up to 65%, saving up to $500 per year on energy bills.
Through a series of articles in Noosa Today and Community Forums, we have provided detailed information on the costs, savings, and benefits of each technology, helping residents make informed decisions about their energy usage & associated costs. These forums have resulted in several external organisations requesting presentations about this topic at their events.
The next stage of this process is in upskilling Tradespersons within Wide Bay in the emerging Electrification technologies, enabling them to value add to their businesses by integrating this approach. It is forecasted that this approach will create approximately 1,800 jobs within the Wide Bay Region alone.

Based on the recent Rewiring Noosa - Electrify Everything Report and associated extensive research, Noosa residents could collectively save over $100m per year from household electrification. This is revenue which instead of going to Energex, fuel and gas suppliers, will stay in the pockets of residences to be spent locally. This means reduced financial pressures to households and businesses within the Noosa Shire.
This also results in a savings of over 100,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, aka Net Zero Emissions.

On June 16th, 2024, we were fortunate enough to host an Induction Cooking Demonstration in collaboration with Noosa’s own Celebrity Chef, Matt Golinski.
After 34 years of solid experience cooking exclusively in Gas Commercial Kitchens, Matt is one of the newest converts to induction, planning on converting his own Kitchen from Gas to Induction after installing solar and batteries on his home and experience the multitude of health and financial benefits as well as ease of use that induction provides.

2023 Cooroy Rewiring Noosa Community Forum
We wish to acknowledge the pioneering work of Rewiring Australia, specifically Saul Griffith who has spearheaded this initiative to transition Australian families and workplaces away from expensive, traditional fossil fuel-based power to electrification powered by renewables.
In following this initiative, Australians can expect a cleaner environment with less emissions, greater control of their own power supplies and the associated costs otherwise dictated by current power merchants.
