Zero Emissions Noosa, Inc - Board of Directors
The Zero Emissions Noosa Inc. board is made up of volunteers who are enthusiastic about assisting the Noosa shire community to reach zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2026.
They bring a variety of experience to their roles – some have interests in reducing emissions in the electricity and sustainable transport sectors through the use of renewable energy, while others contribute their communications, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and government relations, governance and operations, finance and fundraising and behaviour change experience.
Meet our current board members
Anne Kennedy - Chair
Passionate about emissions reduction, Anne brings extensive Board level experience as a Chair, Executive and Non-Executive Committee member/Executive Officer to Boards nationally & internationally, at state, regional and local level across the public, private & NFP sectors. She has worked across diverse industry sectors and in the political arena. Anne initiated the establishment of Cleantech Industries Sunshine Coast Inc. to promote cleantech businesses, and the region as a hub for cleantech businesses, including renewable energy. She has a B.Ec. and is a GAICD. Anne was elected Chair at the 2021 AGM. She is a member of the ZEN Inc. Finance & Fundraising, Comms. & Advocacy and Governance & Operations Committees.
MarK Purcell - DEPUTY CHAIR
Mark Purcell, is an electrical engineer, and a fervent proponent of sustainable energy and climate change mitigation, Mark emphasizes the integration of market-linked electricity pricing, home automation, and energy-efficient technologies to minimize household expenses and ecological footprint.
Having effectively implemented sustainable energy measures in his own Noosa residence, he exemplifies the pragmatic advantages of adopting eco-friendly energy practices. Mark brings his expertise and dedication to fostering a sustainable future and an ideal contributor to the ZEN Inc’s pursuit of a net-zero emissions community by 2026.
COLIN LAMBIE - TREASURER
Colin brings with him a wealth of experience. As co-founder of the Bendigo Sustainability Group in 2007, Colin has been involved in bulk buys of solar hot water systems & solar PV systems, establishing solar on community and I&C roofs, and fundraising to install solar PV on social housing & low-income homes.
A relatively new resident to the Sunshine Coast, we look forward to “picking his brains” about what worked well for BSG and sharing some of our ideas with them.
Colin graduated as an electrical engineer and has been a telecommunications engineer, a teacher & lecturer, a hospital engineer & a hospital IT manager. As a member of an international service club, called YMI, which supports YMCAs, Colin led the way to YMI becoming zero net carbon. He has conducted training across Asia about YMCAs becoming zero net carbon.
Mat Colefax - Board Member
Mat has lived and raised his family in Noosa for several decades, and always contributes to community organisations as a volunteer or on their boards. Speaking of boards Mat is Australia’s 1st kiteboarder, and all terrain standup paddle boarder. And he still reconnects with nature on his surfboard too. Previously heading up import and distribution companies, Mat currently helps businesses and homes by brokering solar as well as innovations such as ebikes. He also works as a professional consultancy to outdoors enterprise, responsible for successes such as the Tewantin Trailcare mountain bike initiative right here in Noosa. Mat is a member of the ZEN inc. Communications & Advocacy committee.
jenny clement - Board Member
Jenny Clement has had a career in international development assistance, working closely with community groups in Asia and the Pacific, with a focus on gender equality, project management, monitoring and evaluation. Her passion for achieving zero emissions stems from climate change concerns and the need for action at all levels to bring sustainable change.
Jenny is a great believer in active transport as part of the solution, so you’ll often see her walking and cycling around Tewantin and Noosaville – or driving her EV for those longer trips.
She is an enthusiastic member of the ZENTAG (Transport) Working Group, and the Communications and Advocacy Committee.
JOHN GREEN - BOARD MEMBER
John is a qualified toolmaker, fitter & turner who was both CEO and Managing Director of a successful and enterprising Almuninium diecasting business within the Automotive sector.
With a hugely diverse background, John has spent much of his career as a marketing consultant & workshop presenter.
With a solid focus on permaculture and sustainability, John was also a well respected sustainability consultant and energy auditor for many years, assessing businesses and households throughout Queensland.
John brings with him unrivalled passion and enthusiasm for building sustainable futures to the ZEN Board.
BRIAN HAINES - Board Member
Brian recently returned to Noosa, his wife’s hometown, after spending the past year sailing across the Pacific with his family. A California native, Brian studied Energy Science & Technology at Stanford University and has worked in the energy & sustainability field ever since.
With a diverse professional background spanning engineering, program management, and policy & regulatory affairs, Brian looks forward to contributing his experience and passion for the environment to Zero Emissions Noosa. In his spare time, Brian enjoys surfing, wing foiling, and racing sailboats.
GILLIAN CARTER - Board Member
Gillian is a Naval Architect & Marine Surveyor who has been living on and off in Noosa Shire since 2009. In mid 2019, Gillian moved to the Netherlands to project manage the engineering of what would have been the world’s largest electric ship for a private client. She then moved into management of the Engineering company and progressed to a Management consultant to the shipyard Directors (Feadship). Gillian continues to work remotely from Noosa and is also on the Judging panel of the Australian Marine Industry Awards, and a speaker at various maritime events.
Living in The Netherlands Gillian witnessed the transition of both the waterways and road networks into electric systems and is keen to see the same transition replicated here in Noosa Shire and beyond.
PROGRAM & PROJECT MANAGER | SECRETARIAT - REX HALVERSON
Well known in the Noosa community, Rex Halverson has a passion for balancing environmental and economic initiatives that support a healthy and sustainable local community.
Originally from Southern California, Rex and family have lived and worked in multiple countries and cultures throughout the world before arriving in Australia and the Sunshine Coast in 2008.
With an extensive background in business development globally, and a heart for Our Noosa Biosphere, Rex is also a past Chair of the Noosa Biosphere Reserve Foundation and President of Queensland Koala Crusaders as well as having been a volunteer for many other local NFP groups.
