Noosaville nudges 40% solar

This week the spotlight is on Noosaville postcode 4566 to check progress on solar uptake and electricity usage. Zero Emissions Noosa(ZEN) is profiling how different postcode localities are tracking towards the goal of zero community emissions for Noosa by 2026. Around 1 in 6 people in the Noosa Council area call postcode 4566 their home.
Local resident and Noosa Mayor Clare Stewart praised Noosaville residents for their take-up of rooftop solar.

Total solar installed is around 11.7MW which if laid out would cover 10 full sized soccer fields.
40% of residential dwelling have solar, with 15% of businesses having made the solar investment. There’s plenty of possibility for more, as only about 9% of potential roof space is being used.
Electricity consumption has reduced by almost 10% over the 2 years to July 2020 according to Energex data for the large Noosaville Zone Substation, and over a 10 year period average residential daily usage is down almost a quarter.
The solar on roofs and other renewable generation saves about 17,530 tonnes of CO2 per year that otherwise would have been emitted from coal fired power stations.
A bit under half of the electricity generated from rooftop solar is consumed on premises and what’s exported to the grid is used by other locals.
